    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Thirty Years' War is one of the most formative military conflicts of the early modern period and transformed large parts of Central Europe into a battlefield for competing powers. The cavalry of this era was far from homogeneous: light harquebusiers with firearms complemented heavily armored cuirassiers, while dragoons provided tactical flexibility as mounted infantry. Cuirassiers in blackened plate armor were considered an elite formation and were specifically used to break through enemy lines. Artillery evolved during this period from cumbersome siege equipment into a more mobile component of open field battles - lighter guns such as the falconet were increasingly used in direct combat.

    In Pike & Shotte Epic Battles, cavalry serves as a mobile strike force, reserve, or flanking element. The scope of delivery includes harquebusiers, cuirassiers, dragoons, commanded shotte, Saker/Falconet cannons, and command elements; therefore, dragoons, cuirassiers, musketeers, field artillery, and HQ & command are fielded.
