Product details

Background & context

At Powick, south of Worcester, Royalist horse met Parliamentarian dragoons in September 1642 - the first engagement of the English Civil Wars. The fight was over a narrow crossing of the Teme, and little changed in the decades that followed: packhorse bridges were narrow, old and rare. Armies planned their marches around them, and whole campaigns got stuck at them.

On the tabletop

Loosely modelled on Powick Bridge, where Royalists and Parliamentarians first clashed in September 1642, this narrow stone bridge opens the English Civil Wars on your table. On the Epic Battles table it decides where a river can be crossed and forces regiments into a narrow column. In Pike & Shotte Epic Battles that makes it an objective one side has to hold. The resin model also works for Napoleonic games.
