Product details

Background & context

The Scottish Covenanters emerged from a religious-political movement that opposed royal interference in Scotland's independent church tradition. Their troops were considered well-equipped and disciplined-not least because many of their officers had gained experience in the conflicts on the European continent. The distinctive Hodden Grey of their uniforms made them easily recognizable on the battlefield. Despite their temporary alliance with the English Parliament, the Covenanters always pursued their own goals: they championed the Scottish Crown and the Protestant church, not the overthrow of the monarchy as such.

On the tabletop

The three combined regiments of pike and musket form the front, each with the pike block in the centre and the muskets to its left and right. The 6 Scots lancers are your fast cavalry for the flank. You get the dragoons in both forms, 6 mounted and 15 dismounted, so you can ride them up to a hedge and have them fight on foot there. The 3 frame gun teams are light enough to advance with the foot. With 3 mounted commanders you can split the battalia as you like, and the colour flag sheet gives every regiment its colours.
