Product details

Background & context

In the 17th-century English Civil War, the Royalists fielded the Crown's army against the rebellious Parliament. Their cavalry was considered potent and aggressive, shaped by experienced officers with continental European war experience from the Thirty Years' War. The leaders of the loyalist forces often came from the high nobility and the monarch's inner circle. Their tactical signature defined the character of Royalist warfare for long periods of the conflict.

On the tabletop

King Charles I leads your Royalist army in Epic Battles and Pike & Shotte, accompanied by his nephews Rupert and Maurice as well as Ralph Hopton and Lord Astley. Give Rupert the cavalry, as he was its best and also its most impetuous leader, Astley the foot and Hopton the troops in the West with their Cornish regiments. Charles himself stands above them all as commander-in-chief. The five mounted figures are cast in Warlord Resin.
