    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The English Civil War of the 17th century divided the British Isles into Royalists and Parliamentarians and profoundly shaped the development of early modern warfare. The cavalry of both sides initially differed significantly: Royalist horsemen relied on daring shock charges with cold steel, while Parliamentarian units initially focused on controlled skirmishing with firearms - a distinction that largely faded by the end of the war. Dragoons were considered versatile combat troops, capable of fighting mounted or dismounted, and were indispensable for securing key positions like bridges. Cuirassiers in heavy plate armor were a rare exception and were almost exclusively found as bodyguards or elite units.

    Cavalry in Pike & Shotte Epic Battles serves as a mobile strike force, reserve, or flank element. The scope of delivery includes Harquebusiers, Cuirassiers, Dragoons, commanded shotte, Saker/Falconet cannons, and command elements; therefore, Dragoons, Cuirassiers, Musketeers, field artillery, and HQ & command are used. The scenario is the English Civil War, not the American Civil War.
