Product details

Background & context

Cuirassiers belonged to the heaviest cavalry of the 17th century and significantly shaped early modern battlefields. Their distinctive characteristic was the massive plate armor that protected the torso and chest, giving them an intimidating appearance. Characteristic of these cavalry units was the caracole tactic: in staggered rows, they rode towards the enemy, fired their pistols, and wheeled away to reload. This combination of mobility and firepower made cuirassiers a central element of early modern armies throughout Europe.

On the tabletop

The fifteen Warlord Resin cuirassiers form a closed regiment of heavy, armoured cavalry in 13.5 mm Pike & Shotte games. Their trademark was the caracole: rank after rank rode up, fired their pistols and wheeled away to reload. On the table you post the regiment on a wing, where it takes on the enemy horse. Whole regiments of cuirassiers were rare in the English Civil War; the best known was Sir Arthur Haselrig's unit, nicknamed the Lobsters. A flag sheet is included.
