Product details

Background & context

Unprotected Persian archers are considered in the context of ancient warfare in the Achaemenid Persian Empire. They represent the great importance of ranged troops in Persian armies and could be used in formation or as skirmishers. Such troops were employed in armies characterized by different weapons, levels of protection, and tactical roles. For tabletop armies, the set forms a clear historical building block for Persian armies and Greek-Persian conflicts. The classification is based on the depicted troop type and the historical framework described by the manufacturer.

On the tabletop

Unarmoured archers provide the numbers in your Persian army, because without armour they were raised in great quantities. Behind a wall of the included sparas the 24 men shoot at advancing enemies, and in loose order they go out as skirmishers to harass the foe. They do not last long in melee, so spearmen belong in front of them. Six figures for leaders, standards and music come with them, along with spare arrows.
