Background & context

Achaemenid Persian spearmen are presented in the context of ancient warfare in the Persian Empire. Spearmen with large shields formed an important part of Persian infantry lines and could cover ranged fighters. Such troops were employed in armies characterized by different weapons, levels of protection, and tactical roles. For tabletop armies, the set provides a clear historical building block for Persian infantry units. The classification is based on the troop type depicted and the historical framework described by the manufacturer.

On the tabletop

Together, spear and spara keep the enemy of this unit at a distance. The 24 armoured spearmen stand in the centre of your Persian battle line and shield the archers shooting from behind them. Do not leave them alone against heavily armoured hoplites, as their own equipment is lighter. Six command figures with officers, standard bearers and musicians plus plenty of head and arm parts make the box a unit of the early or late Achaemenid Empire.
