    Background & context

    Das Partherreich löste die Seleukiden im Iran ab und stand Rom von der späten Republik bis in die Kaiserzeit als ebenbürtiger Gegner gegenüber. 53 v. Chr. umritten parthische Bogenschützen bei Carrhae die Legionen des Crassus, hielten sie stundenlang unter Dauerfeuer und vernichteten ein römisches Heer, ohne je richtig heranzukommen. Der Parthische Schuss, rückwärts über die Kruppe abgegeben, ist seither sprichwörtlich.

    On the tabletop

    A leader, a standard bearer, a hornblower and nine horse archers make up a complete Parthian cavalry regiment in metal. In Hail Caesar the unit circles the enemy, shoots on the move and avoids close combat. That is how Parthian archers kept Crassus' legions under fire for hours at Carrhae in 53 BC. Cataphracts as heavy cavalry complement them in your army, and Rome is the main opponent.
