Background & context

In the Wehrmacht, Kampfgruppe did not mean a fixed formation but an ad hoc alliance: whatever tanks, grenadiers and guns were at hand were put under one commander and thrown into the breach. In Normandy in 1944, such groups built around Panzer IVs with a few Tigers and the 8.8cm Flak as anti-tank support were everyday reality, because under Allied air superiority complete divisions rarely reached the front intact.

On the tabletop

With five Panzer IVs you field the tank company the list is built around, and the two Tigers join as a heavy platoon that deals with everything the Panzer IV cannot crack. The three StuGs form their own platoon, fighting enemy tanks from the second line. The Panzergrenadier platoon with 10 teams sits on the objectives, the three 15cm Nebelwerfer fire indirectly at infantry and anti-tank guns, and the two 8.8cm Flak dig in as a tank barrier with their long range. That way the tank company carries the attack while the rest secures your own half of the table.
