Product details

Background & context

From 1943 the Panzer IV received the long 7.5cm barrel, thicker front plates and the conspicuous side skirts, which were meant to set off hollow-charge and anti-tank rifle rounds prematurely. Added to that was the coarse Zimmerit paste against magnetic mines, which gave every tank a surface texture of its own. In this form the Panzer IV was no stopgap alongside the Panther but a fully fledged battle tank.

On the tabletop

The five late-model Panzer IVs carry side skirts, Zimmerit and the long 7.5 cm gun. In Flames of War they give you a German tank platoon for the years from 1943 that can hold its own next to the Panther. The long gun lets you engage enemy tanks at greater range, and the thicker frontal armour helps when advancing together with the infantry. A decal sheet is included, and the scale is 15 mm.
