Background & context

Numidian cavalry is understood in the context of ancient warfare in North Africa. Numidians were known for their fast, light cavalry and fought both with and against Carthaginian and Roman armies. Such troops were employed in armies characterized by different weapons, levels of protection, and tactical roles. For tabletop armies, the set forms a clear historical building block for Numidian, Carthaginian, and Roman enemy armies. The classification is based on the depicted troop type and the historical framework described by the manufacturer.

On the tabletop

The twelve Numidian riders are the light cavalry that Carthage relied on for generations, including Hannibal's campaign in Italy. They ride without bridles, throw javelins and slip away before heavier enemies can catch them. In games you use them on the flanks to tie down cavalry or harass foot troops from the side. Together with Spanish cavalry and Carthaginian infantry they grow into a complete army of the Punic Wars.
