Background & context

Als Wilhelm im Herbst 1066 bei Pevensey an Land ging, hing sein Anspruch auf England an einer Handvoll Getreuer. Odo, sein Halbbruder, war Bischof von Bayeux und führte trotzdem im Feld; der Teppich von Bayeux, in seinem Auftrag entstanden, zeigt ihn mitten im Getümmel. Turstin Fitz Rolf soll bei Hastings das Banner getragen haben, nachdem zwei andere abgelehnt hatten. Nach dem Sieg wurden aus solchen Gefolgsleuten Grundherren.

On the tabletop

Duke William, Bishop Odo and Turstin Fitz Rolf give your Norman war band in SAGA a famous leader and two companions who stand out clearly from the mail-clad troops around them. They suit scenarios around the landing at Pevensey and Hastings in 1066. Odo was William's half-brother and Bishop of Bayeux, and the Bayeux Tapestry shows him in the thick of the fighting, while Turstin is said to have carried the banner at Hastings. The figures are metal.
