Background & context

Bei den Kelten führte man von vorn. Ein Häuptling zog keine Fäden im Hintergrund, sondern ritt seinen Kriegern voran, umgeben von Gefolgsleuten, die ihm Ansehen und Beute verdankten. Rang zeigte man am Material: emaillierte Schilde, Torques aus Edelmetall, aufwendig getriebene Helme. Das Pferd war dabei weniger Kampfmittel als Statussymbol - die gallische Reiterei galt Caesar allerdings als so brauchbar, dass er sie nach der Eroberung kurzerhand in seine eigenen Heere übernahm.

On the tabletop

Among the Celts the chieftain led from the front, and these three mounted command figures in metal represent him with his retinue. In Hail Caesar or Clash of Spears you use them as the commander of your Gallic army or at the head of a cavalry unit. Shields, torcs and helmets offer plenty of room to show the leaders' rank in paint. Caesar thought the Gallic cavalry so useful that he employed it himself after the conquest.
