Background & context

Mithridates VI. bestieg um 120 v. Chr. den Thron von Pontos an der Schwarzmeerküste und machte aus dem Randreich eine Großmacht, die die Krim, Kolchis und halb Kleinasien beherrschte. 88 v. Chr. ließ er an einem Tag zehntausende Römer und Italiker in den Städten Asiens töten und hatte damit den Krieg, den er wollte. Sulla warf ihn aus Griechenland, Lucullus aus Pontos, Pompeius setzte ihm nach bis zum Kaukasus. Als sein eigener Sohn gegen ihn aufstand, nahm er sich 63 v. Chr. das Leben. Das Gift, an das er sich ein Leben lang gewöhnt hatte, wirkte nicht mehr.

Mithridates VI leads your Pontic army in Hail Caesar as mounted commander-in-chief, spear raised at the head of his troops. His rules are in the supplement Rome's Conquest of the East. He suits the Mithridatic Wars of 88 to 63 BC, in which he defied Rome for over two decades with shifting alliances. For opponents you field Sulla, Lucullus or Pompey. The figure is metal.
