    Product details

    Background & context

The MiG-3 was a Soviet high-performance fighter that saw service on the Eastern Front in the early war years. Originally designed for high-altitude interception missions, it exhibited significant performance limitations at medium and low altitudes. Despite its weaknesses, it was one of the most frequently used Soviet fighter aircraft at the beginning of the Eastern Campaign. Many Soviet pilots gained their first combat experience on this type before more modern types replaced it in frontline squadrons.

    On the tabletop

The MiG-3 was a high-altitude fighter, but over the Eastern Front most fighting took place below 5,000 metres, where it was sluggish. In Blood Red Skies it therefore carries the Sluggish trait, but makes up for it with Great Dive and matches the agility and firepower of the early Bf 109, its most common opponent. The six aircraft support Yak-1s or I-16s in Soviet squadrons from June 1941. Bases, tokens and decals are included.
