Background & context

In 1941 and 1942 the Zero ruled the skies over the Pacific because no Allied fighter could turn as tightly or fly as far. The price was the lack of armour and self-sealing tanks. The A6M5 of 1943 received thicker wing skinning and a higher dive speed to stand up to the Hellcat and Corsair, but at heart it remained the light aircraft of 1940.

On the tabletop

Six plastic Mitsubishi A6M5 Zeros from the first edition of Blood Red Skies form a Japanese navy fighter squadron, with flying bases and cards included. The A6M5 of 1943 received stronger wings and a higher permitted diving speed to stand up to the new American carrier fighters, but remained light and unarmoured. In your games you therefore seek the turning fight and avoid the enemy's diving attacks and firepower. A sheet of markings is part of the set.
