Product details

Background & context

The Yak-1 entered service in 1940 and was one of the few modern fighters of the Soviet air force when Germany attacked. Wooden wings and a mixed-construction fuselage made it simple to build and to repair in the field. Production suffered when the factories were moved east, yet the type stayed popular with front-line pilots and became the starting point of the whole Yak family.

On the tabletop

This box of six plastic Yak-1s comes from the first edition of Blood Red Skies, together with bases, game cards, pilot discs and a sheet of markings. The Yak-1 entered service in 1940, fast, well armed and easy to maintain thanks to its wooden wings, and remained popular with front-line pilots. In your games on the early Eastern Front the squadron forms your Soviet fighter defence against early German fighters. Warlord now lists the box only in its archive.
