Product details

Background & context

The Merlin engine turned a mediocre fighter into one of the best aircraft of the war. From 1944 the P-51D, with its bubble canopy and six heavy machine guns, escorted the bombers of the 8th Air Force to Berlin and back, a distance no single-engined fighter had managed before. That cost the German fighter arm the space in which it could attack the formations undisturbed.

On the tabletop

Six plastic P-51D Mustangs form an American fighter squadron from the earlier edition of Blood Red Skies, with bases, cards, pilot discs and three action cards. With its Merlin engine and long range, the P-51D escorted the bombers of the 8th Air Force deep into Germany and back from 1944. In your games you therefore stay with your own bombers, keep your height and dive on anything that attacks the formation. A sheet of aircraft markings is included.
