Background & context

The earliest two-wheeled horse-drawn chariots were developed by the Hurrians, Kassites, and other Anatolian highlanders in the latter half of the Middle Bronze Age. From there, their use rapidly spread to the Amorite kingdoms, the Elamites, and the Hyksos. The chariot warriors wore long garments, tunics, or skirts with light armor - scale armor for some charioteers appeared towards the end of the Middle Bronze Age. The chariot body consisted of a light wooden frame, shaped by steam bending, with the axle now at the rear of the cabin for greater maneuverability.

On the tabletop

A charioteer and a warrior crew this third Middle Bronze Age chariot, and its team is made up of two of four randomly chosen horse poses. You make the reins from wire or sewing thread, and the rail only takes its shape once you bend it. On these chariots the axle sat at the rear, which made them faster and more agile than older platform carts. In Hail Caesar it adds to the chariot unit of an Amorite, Elamite or Hyksos army.
