Product details

Background & context

Depending on the period, the sarissa of the Macedonian phalangites measured from four to over six metres and was wielded with both hands, so the small shield hung from a strap over the shoulder. Four to five rows of points thus projected beyond the front rank, and from the front this wall was almost impossible to break. Philip II turned it into the tool with which Alexander overcame the Persian Empire within a few years.

On the tabletop

A single sprue with four Macedonian phalangites with sarissa and shield adds the figures your phalanx still needs for its full frontage in Hail Caesar. The two-handed sarissa let the points of several ranks project in front of the first, making the wall almost impossible to break from the front. Use it to fill out existing pike blocks or replace individual figures. The bulk of your phalanx comes from the Macedonians: Phalangites box.
