    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The Macchi C.202 Folgore was among the most capable fighter aircraft available to the Italian Air Force during World War II. Entering active service in the summer of 1941, it proved particularly effective in aerial combat over the Mediterranean and North Africa. The aircraft combined a high-performance German engine with an aerodynamically refined Italian airframe design, achieving a maneuverability and speed that challenged many contemporary adversaries. Measured by kills and losses, the Folgore achieved a remarkable ratio and is still considered the pinnacle of Italian fighter aircraft construction of that era.
