Background & context

Die Schleuder war die Waffe der Hirten und damit für jedes Aufgebot bezahlbar: ein Lederriemen, dazu Munition vom Flussbett. In geübter Hand reichte ein Bleigeschoss weiter als ein Pfeil und schlug durch Leder und Leinen. Von den sumerischen Stadtstaaten über die Hyksos in Ägypten bis zu Mitanni und den Elamitern taucht der Schleuderer in fast jedem Heer auf - und weil seine Ausrüstung sich kaum änderte, bleibt er bis in die Eisenzeit hinein glaubwürdig.

On the tabletop

Armed with sling and dagger, these eight slingers are among the missile troops of your levy in Hail Caesar. You field them in regular armies or in nomadic armies of the Early, Middle and Late Bronze Age. With kilt, tunic or long robe they fit almost any army into the Iron Age, from Sumerian city states and the Hyksos to the Mitanni and Elamites. In front of the line they shoot at the enemy from a distance before the heavier troops clash.
