Background & context

The Levy Bowmen represent the Hupshu - common peasants and nomads conscripted into the city-state armies of Syria and Canaan, as well as the armies of Mitanni, the Kassites, Assyrians, and the Hittite Empire. They formed the light ranged component of nearly all Near Eastern Bronze Age armies and are also suitable for early Hebrew (Habiru) tribes like the Benjaminites, and other desert nomad peoples of the Late Bronze Age. Their light equipment and broad utility make them one of the most versatile infantry types of the era.

On the tabletop

The strength of levied archers never lay in the individual man but in their numbers. With these eight figures you widen the archer line of your Bronze Age army in Hail Caesar. They take their place beside the spear blocks and cover their flanks with arrows. Whether Akkad, Mitanni, the Kassites, the early Hebrews or nomadic groups, this type of troop looked much the same everywhere.
