Background & context

The Later Levy Javelinmen represent the peasant conscripts (Hupshu) of the Late Bronze Age, who were drafted into the armies of the Syro-Canaanite city-states, the Mitanni Empire, Middle Assyria, Kassite Babylonia, and the Hittite Empire. Lightly clad and without heavy armament or armor, these men served as skirmishers and light support troops. The figures are equally suitable for Bedouin nomad armies such as the Midianites or early Arameans, as well as Shekelesh or Teresh in Sea Peoples armies.

On the tabletop

Without armour and carrying only javelins, the hupshu levies of the Late Bronze Age went to war. In Hail Caesar the eight figures run ahead of your battle line, throw and pull back before the main lines clash. They fit almost any army of the period: the city-states of Syria and Canaan, Mitanni, Middle Assyria, Kassite Babylonia or the Hittites. That buys time for your main line while the enemy deals with the skirmishers.
