Background & context

Ägyptens Heere des Neuen Reichs waren Berufsarmeen mit eigener Hierarchie, Kasernen und Nachschubwesen. Neben Bogen und Streitwagen brauchte es Männer, die Mauern stürmten und Furten hielten: bewaffnet mit Streitaxt, Sichelschwert und Schild, geschützt allenfalls durch gepolsterte Wämser. Bei Megiddo und Kadesch entschied sich der Kampf am Ende dort, wo diese Trupps aufeinandertrafen.

On the tabletop

These eight metal foot figures represent the close fighters of the Egyptian armies of the New Kingdom. In Hail Caesar they form a close-order unit that storms walls, holds fords and pins the enemy in hand-to-hand fighting. While they hold the enemy in place, your chariots and missile troops can act elsewhere. Historically such men fought with battle axe, sickle sword and shield, for example at Megiddo and Kadesh.
