Background & context

Den Kompositbogen lernten die Ägypter von den Hyksos kennen und machten ihn zur Kernwaffe ihres Heeres. Pharaonen ließen sich als Schützen darstellen, von Amenhotep II. berichten Inschriften vom Durchschießen kupferner Zielscheiben. Neben ägyptischen Einheiten dienten nubische Bogenschützen in großer Zahl als Söldner. Auf Feldzügen in der Levante eröffneten die Schützen das Gefecht, lange bevor Speerträger und Wagen zum Zug kamen.

On the tabletop

The Egyptians adopted the composite bow from the Hyksos and made it the main missile weapon of their army. These eight metal figures bring such archers to your Bronze Age army for Hail Caesar. Their place is beside or in front of the main line, shooting at advancing units before the lines clash. In the Levant many battles began with their arrows before spearmen and chariots joined in.
