Product details

Background & context

Shallow-draught landing craft with a bow ramp put soldiers and vehicles straight onto the beach without the need for a harbour. On 6 June 1944 thousands of such boats landed the Allied troops on the Normandy coast. At Tarawa in November 1943 the boats grounded on a coral reef, and many Marines had to wade hundreds of metres through the water. Czech hedgehogs made of welded steel girders were among the obstacles of the Atlantic Wall.

On the tabletop

Bring the boat in at the water's edge of your table and lower the ramp as soon as the troops reach the beach. Until then the sides protect the men inside from fire. Spread the hedgehogs across the sand, where they slow vehicles and give infantry some cover between the water and the dunes. In Bolt Action the craft fits landings in Normandy as well as in the Pacific.
