Background & context

The North Korean People's Army relied heavily on Soviet training and equipment concepts in the Korean War. Anti-tank rifles like the PTRD and PTRS, long obsolete in other armies, remained active in KPA service and were increasingly used against lightly armored targets. Flamethrowers played an unusually central role, as the KPA lacked credible alternatives for anti-tank warfare - the camouflaged ROKS-2 was intended to be as inconspicuous as possible on the battlefield. The Soviet 50mm infantry mortar was widely used at company and platoon level, offering commanders flexible indirect fire support.

On the tabletop

Anti-tank rifle, flamethrower and light mortar cover three different tasks in your KPA platoon for Bolt Action. Later in the war the anti-tank rifle was mainly used against armoured cars, half-tracks, trucks and dug-in positions. Because other anti-tank weapons were lacking, the KPA used flamethrowers against infantry and tanks alike. The light mortar, in KPA service usually the Soviet 50 mm model, fires high-explosive and smoke rounds in an arc.
