Hintergrund & Einordnung

The North Korean People's Army relied heavily on Soviet training and equipment concepts in the Korean War. Anti-tank rifles like the PTRD and PTRS, long obsolete in other armies, remained active in KPA service and were increasingly used against lightly armored targets. Flamethrowers played an unusually central role, as the KPA lacked credible alternatives for anti-tank warfare - the camouflaged ROKS-2 was intended to be as inconspicuous as possible on the battlefield. The Soviet 50mm infantry mortar was widely used at company and platoon level, offering commanders flexible indirect fire support.

The mortar team is suitable for indirect fire against entrenched positions and hard-to-reach areas. The flamethrower team is particularly effective in close quarters and against entrenched infantry.
