    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The North Korean People's Army (KPA) was the most powerful military force on the Korean Peninsula at the outbreak of war in June 1950 - equipped with Soviet technology, reinforced by veterans of the Chinese Civil War, and tightly organized according to the Soviet model. Dedicated submachine gun companies were established at the regimental level, with their primary task being reconnaissance for the infantry regiment. Every soldier in these units carried the PPSh 41, a Soviet submachine gun with a 71-round drum magazine, which allowed for enormous firepower at short ranges. The early superiority of the KPA over the surprised South Korean and UN forces is particularly evident in the quality and specialization of these reconnaissance units.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    As an SMG squad, this unit brings aggressive, short-range firepower to the tabletop, particularly suited for rapid advances and overrunning enemy positions. The uniform armament with submachine guns makes the squad dangerous at close quarters but requires tactical movement using cover and terrain during longer engagements. As a reconnaissance element, it can be deployed in special scenarios such as patrols or vanguard skirmishes and complements classic line infantry as a flexible shock troop element. Thematically, it fits perfectly into scenarios from the early phase of the war in 1950, when the KPA still held the initiative across the entire battlefield.
