Background & context

Als die chinesischen Volksfreiwilligen im Winter 1950 über den Yalu kamen, hatten sie kaum Luftunterstützung und wenig Artillerie. Ausgeglichen wurde das mit Nachtmärschen, weiten Umgehungen und schierer Zahl. Der mittlere Mörser war dabei die schwerste Waffe, die ein Bataillon zuverlässig mitschleppen konnte: zerlegbar, von Menschen zu tragen und in den koreanischen Bergen oft die einzige Feuerunterstützung, die überhaupt bis nach vorn kam.

On the tabletop

In the Korean War the medium mortar was often the only fire support a unit of the People's Volunteers could bring forward. In Bolt Action the team fires indirectly over hills and ridges at enemies in trenches and positions. You can group several teams into a small battery, just as the PVA organised its tubes in groups of three or six. Three figures in PVA kit form the crew.
