Background & context

Der Legionär des Prinzipats trug Segmentpanzer, den gewölbten Rechteckschild und den kurzen gladius, zwei Pila wurden vor dem Zusammenprall geworfen. Seine Stärke lag weniger in der Ausrüstung als im Drill: Marschleistung, Lagerbau, geordnetes Ablösen der vorderen Reihen. Von Britannien über den Rhein bis an den Euphrat hielten rund dreißig Legionen dieser Art die Grenzen des Reiches, jede mit eigenem Namen und eigener Geschichte.

On the tabletop

In Hail Caesar, early imperial legionaries are the heavy infantry at the centre of a Roman battle line. This single sprue lets you add figures to a unit that is still short of men, or replace parts on existing models. Segmented armour, the curved rectangular shield and the short sword show the legionary of the Principate who held the frontiers from the Rhine to the Euphrates. You will find their opponents along those frontiers, such as Germanic tribes on the Rhine or the tribes of Britain.
