Background & context

Der Buzogányvető, wörtlich Streitkolbenwerfer, entstand 1944 in Ungarn als Notlösung gegen sowjetische Panzer und Stellungen. Die dicke Hohlladung am Kopf der Rakete gab der Waffe ihren Namen. Bei der Belagerung von Budapest im Winter 1944/45 kam sie im Straßenkampf zum Zug, wo die kurze Reichweite kaum ins Gewicht fiel. Gebaut wurden nur wenige hundert Stück.

On the tabletop

The 44M Buzogányvető, the mace thrower, fires two unguided rockets and was a Hungarian weapon of late 1944 for fighting Soviet tanks at short range. In Bolt Action it counts as artillery and can be fielded in late war Hungarian lists, with its rules in the Fortress Budapest campaign book. Besides the Buzogány shaped-charge rocket it also fires the Zápor high-explosive rocket against infantry. It works best in street fighting, where its short range hardly matters. Four metal crew figures are included.
