Product details

Background & context

The cavalry needed a tank that could keep pace with the Somua, and the slow R35 was out of the question for that. What emerged at first was the H35, which in the end was hardly any faster. Only the H39, with its 120hp engine and the longer 37mm SA-38, delivered the performance the brief had demanded, and from the spring of 1940 France re-equipped as fast as production could keep up. Both versions stood side by side at the front in May.

On the tabletop

You can build the five plastic Hotchkiss as the H35 with the short 37 mm gun or as the H39 with a stronger engine and long barrel. In Flames of War they are the light tanks of the French cavalry in May 1940, well armoured and in 15 mm scale. The short gun of the H35 does little against tanks, so it mainly accompanies reconnaissance and infantry. The H39 with the long SA-38 is faster and can also take on enemy tanks.
