    Product details

    Background & context

The Hittite heartland lay on the Anatolian plateau, surrounded by mountain ranges whose tribes met Hattusa sometimes as allies and sometimes as plunderers. The Kaskians in the north burned the capital down more than once, while other highland groups marched with the kings to Syria as auxiliaries. Their weapon was the javelin, their tactic the ambush in a narrow pass, because heavy chariots were of little use there. It is precisely this terrain that makes them interesting on the gaming table.

    On the tabletop

Around the Hittite heartland lived hill tribes who sometimes served Hattusa as auxiliaries and sometimes raided it. These eight unarmoured javelinmen represent them in Hail Caesar, either within a Hittite army or in an independent highland force. Their place is broken ground: from passes, hills and woods they attack with javelins where heavy chariots achieve little. The Kaska from the north, who set Hattusa on fire more than once, can be represented this way too.
