Product details

Background & context

The light chariots of the Hittites were the mobile backbone of their Bronze Age armies and played a decisive role in the battles of the Near East. Manned by a driver and a fighter - either a spearman or an archer - they were more agile than the heavy three-man chariots of the later period. The body of this variant of chariot is covered with animal hides and has six-spoked wheels. They could be deployed in early Hittite as well as Hittite Empire armies, and also by allied Central Anatolian peoples such as the Gasga.

On the tabletop

A bent wooden frame covered with hide and six-spoked wheels mark out this light Hittite chariot, variant II of the range. Two horses and two metal crew figures are included. In Hail Caesar it is a fast chariot for thrusts on the flanks, operating alongside the heavy three-man chariots of a Hittite army. The Gasga in the north used similar vehicles, so you can field it in their army too.
