Background & context

Das Hethiterreich war im 13. Jahrhundert v. Chr. die Großmacht Anatoliens und Nordsyriens. Seine Streitwagen fuhren mit drei Mann - Lenker, Schildträger und Speerkämpfer - und damit schwerer als die zweiköpfigen ägyptischen Wagen. Sie dienten nicht dem Beschuss, sondern dem geschlossenen Stoß. Bei Kadesch am Orontes trafen 1274 v. Chr. beide Doktrinen aufeinander, als Muwatalli II. seine Wagen gegen Ramses II. führte.

On the tabletop

This single heavy metal chariot comes with team and crew and adds to a Hittite chariot force in Hail Caesar. The Hittites used their chariots not as shooting platforms but for the massed charge, which is why it carries a driver, a shield bearer and a spearman. Place it in the centre of your chariots or use it as a leader's chariot. Historically it belongs to the 13th century BC, when Muwatalli II faced Ramesses II at Kadesh.
