Product details

Background & context

Rome secured roads and frontiers with towers. Small posts, often manned by only a handful of soldiers, signalled with fire and smoke what was approaching and covered the camps and supply roads behind them. Even in the field the legions threw up such positions with ditch and palisade within hours; later they became the stone burgi along the borders of the empire.

On the tabletop

The watchtower with palisade forms an advanced post of the kind Rome built at camps and key routes during the Punic Wars. In Hail Caesar Epic Battles, place it at a choke point or on the edge of your camp. It holds up an attacker long enough for the rest of your troops to arrive and is a worthwhile target in its own right. The tower is MDF and the roof is resin.
