Beide Seiten der Punischen Kriege arbeiteten mit Kundschaftern: Hannibal schickte Vertraute in römische Städte, Rom hielt Informanten in Süditalien und Nordafrika. Livius berichtet von karthagischen Spähern, die sich in Rom jahrelang halten konnten, und von Strafen, die abschrecken sollten, wobei abgeschnittene Hände noch die mildere Variante waren. Ein enttarnter Agent durfte auf keine Nachsicht hoffen, denn er galt nicht als Soldat.

On the tabletop

This vignette shows Carthaginian guards interrogating a captured Roman scout and gives your army in Hail Caesar Epic Battles a scene away from the battle line. Place it in your camp, use it as an objective both sides fight over, or as the opening of a scenario in which the prisoner has to be freed. Rome and Carthage both relied on scouts and spies in the Punic Wars, and an exposed agent could expect no mercy.
