Product details

Background & context

The Celtic tribes of Gaul and the British Isles were among the most renowned warrior peoples of antiquity. Their warfare was characterized by untamed aggression, a deafening din of battle, and the psychological terror that naked Gaesatae warriors and thundering chariots unleashed upon their enemies. Despite their martial reputation, the Celts were not a chaotic horde, but organized themselves into tribes under charismatic leaders who developed considerable fighting power in both offensive and defensive capacities. As mercenaries, Celtic warriors served in various armies of the Mediterranean region - extending their military significance far beyond their own homelands.

On the tabletop

The 18 bases of warriors make 3 units of 6 bases each, plus the 6 bases of Gaesatae as a block for the front rank. The 6 chariots run in 2 units of 3, and the cavalry provides 2 units each of light and medium horse with 3 bases apiece. As skirmishers you have 3 units of javelinmen, 3 units of archers with 2 bases each and 2 bases of slingers. Chieftains on foot and on horseback with standard bearers lead the divisions, and the female leader in Warlord Resin commands the whole army. The booklet provides the army list and scenarios, and you can also field individual units as mercenaries in a Carthaginian or Roman army.
