Product details

Background & context

The Polish campaign showed that the old platoons were too unwieldy to lead. So they were reorganised: four squads of ten men each instead of three larger units, every squad with a light MG34. On balance there were fewer riflemen in the platoon but a fourth machine gun, so firepower went up all the same. As soon as production caught up, the junior leaders were given the MP40 as well.

On the tabletop

The Grenadier Platoon represents German infantry in Flames of War in 1940 after its reorganisation, with an MG34 in every squad. The six rifle or MG teams take ground and hold it, while the two command teams lead the platoon. The light 5 cm mortar engages enemies behind cover, and the anti-tank rifle gives you a modest defence against light tanks. In total the box contains ten plastic teams in 15 mm scale.
