Background & context

Germanische Heere kannten keine stehende Truppe. Wer kämpfte, folgte einem Anführer, dessen Stellung auf Erfolg im Feld und auf Freigebigkeit beruhte: Waffen, Pferde und Beute wurden weitergereicht, und daraus wuchs die Gefolgschaft. Fiel der Anführer, zerfiel meist auch der Haufen um ihn herum. Rom erlebte die Kehrseite im Jahr 9 nach Christus, als Arminius drei Legionen im Teutoburger Wald aufrieb und der Plan einer Provinz Germanien danach begraben wurde.

On the tabletop

With these three figures you field the leader of your Germanic war band and his companions in Hail Caesar. His standing rested on success and generosity, and if he fell the band around him often broke up, so on the table he belongs in a well-protected spot. Fitting scenarios include AD 9, when Arminius destroyed three Roman legions in the Teutoburg Forest. The figures are metal.
