Product details

Background & context

A desert convoy consisted of more than driving. Between the stages there was waiting: for fuel, for the column ahead, for a sandstorm to end. In those hours men ate, wrote letters, patched up the vehicle and kept the carbine within reach, because British long-range patrols preferred to strike during a halt. The drivers wore the same tropical uniform as the fighting troops, but their work almost always took place between the battles.

On the tabletop

The four figures show an Afrika Korps rest stop between two stages: one man spoons from his mess tin, another holds his writing board, the third has a water bottle and steel helmet, and the fourth keeps his carbine ready across his knees. You place them on the cargo bed of a halted lorry or at the edge of a desert track. That creates an objective away from the fighting, threatened by an enemy raid.
