    Background & context

The Deutsches Afrikakorps depended on the road. From the ports of Tripoli and Benghazi to the front at El Alamein lay up to 2,000 kilometres of track, and everything had to get there by lorry: fuel, water, ammunition, spare parts. The drivers spent days in heat, dust and sandstorms, always with one eye on the sky, because Allied fighters and the Long Range Desert Group had precisely these columns in their sights. In the end logistics decided the campaign more than any single tank battle.

    On the tabletop

These drivers crew the lorries of your supply column in the desert campaign. The five men in tropical uniform wear goggles, and an alternative head with a cloth over the face shows the drive through sand and dust. The three hoops recreate the tilt frame on the cargo bed of an Opel lorry. Because Allied fighters and long-range patrols went after columns, a crewed lorry makes a good objective that you either guard or raid.
