Hintergrund & Einordnung

Tank crews of the German Afrika Korps fought under extreme climatic conditions and simultaneous material shortages - fuel and spare parts often had to be transported thousands of kilometers through the desert, which severely limited operational mobility. Despite these adversities, DAK tank crews were considered some of the most effective armored units of the war - with superior tactics and mission command, they were able to defeat numerically superior opponents. Their characteristic appearance with tropical uniforms, black tank berets or tropical helmets, and short khaki trousers makes them immediately recognizable as DAK crews on the gaming table. Lighter vehicles such as the Panzer II, StuG III Ausf. F, or the Marder self-propelled guns were also part of the desert campaigns' inventory - their crews wore the same tropical equipment as the heavy tank crews.
