Five half-figures for the hatches of your Panzer IIIs and IVs in North Africa. The crew wear tropical shirts, side caps and field caps, some with headphones and dust goggles, and end at the waist, so they sit in commander's and loader's hatches without any sawing.

    Background & context

In the desert nobody drove with closed hatches by choice. In the Panzer III and IV, temperatures in the fighting compartment climbed to well over 50 degrees, and on top of that came the fine sand that ate optics and engines. Whenever possible, commander, loader and radio operator therefore stood with their upper bodies out of the hatches, dust goggles on the field cap, scarf over the mouth. Tropical clothing arrived from spring 1941 in olive brown and quickly bleached to sand yellow in the sun; many crews pinned the death's head of the Panzer arm to the collar of the tropical tunic.

    On the tabletop

Five half-figures crew the hatches of your Panzer III and IV in the North African campaign. Because the bodies end at the hip, they fit into the commander and loader hatches without any extra work. Tropical shirts, field caps or side caps, some with headphones and goggles, show crews driving with open hatches in the heat. A manned turret is a good way to mark your platoon commander tank, for example. Set 2 adds further poses.
