Product details

Background & context

Tank riders were normal in the Second World War wherever infantry had to keep up with the pace of the tanks. German Panzergrenadier doctrine actually called for half-tracks, but the Sd.Kfz. 251s were never available in sufficient numbers, so the men rode on the tanks. On the Eastern Front, Landser on Panzer IIIs, Panzer IVs and StuG IIIs were part of the everyday picture of mobile warfare. It was never comfortable and certainly never safe: a single burst of fire could sweep the whole squad off the hull.

On the tabletop

These five infantrymen show German soldiers riding a tank to the front, for example a Panzer III, Panzer IV or StuG III on the Eastern Front. Their poses are made for sitting and crouching on vehicles, and with three alternative hands you decide whether a man is smoking or holding his rifle. That turns a single tank into a small scene with infantry riding on board, on the gaming table or in a diorama.
