    Product details

    Background & context

The desert has no hedgerows behind which a platoon commander could direct his squads by shouting. In the Afrika Korps, command therefore depended on radio even more than in Europe: manpack sets linked the platoon to the company, while flare pistol and hand signals replaced the spoken order at short range. The officers wore the same tropical uniform as their men and stood at the front, and Rommel's way of leading from the command vehicle at the very front carried on down to platoon level. Anyone watching a German platoon before Tobruk in 1941 or at Gazala in 1942 saw the radio operator with his aerial first.

    On the tabletop

These three figures lead an Afrika Korps infantry platoon in North African actions of 1941 and 1942. The officer with drawn pistol points the way, while the radio operator and the soldier with the backpack set keep contact with the company. On the table they mark the platoon commander that your other sections take their lead from. The figures come 3D printed on supports, which you remove before gluing.
