Product details

Background & context

On the tabletop

These three shooters carry the gastraphetes, the belly bow developed by Greek craftsmen in the 5th century BC. Its bolts pierced shield and armour, but drawing it with the shooter's own body weight took time. In Hail Caesar you therefore aim the small unit at well-armoured targets and position it where your hoplites can cover it. The weapon is regarded as the forerunner of later engines such as the oxybeles and the ballista. A square base is not included.
