Foot Knights 1450-1500 contains 17 flags; unit bases and information sheet. The included models are made of plastic and are supplied as an unpainted tabletop kit. The fully armoured foot knights of the late Gothic period (1450-1500) represented the pinnacle of medieval knightly armour.

Background & context

Um 1470 hatte die Plattenrüstung ihren technischen Höhepunkt erreicht. Ein voll geharnischter Mann war gegen Pfeil und Schwerthieb weitgehend sicher und musste mit Streitaxt, Hammer oder Dolch im Nahkampf aufgebrochen werden. Deshalb saßen in den Rosenkriegen ganze Retinues ab und kämpften zu Fuß, während die Pferde hinter der Linie warteten. In Burgund und Italien war derselbe Harnisch der teuerste Posten in jedem Söldnervertrag.

On the tabletop

The 38 fully armoured foot knights form the core of an army of the Wars of the Roses, or of a Burgundian or Italian force of the late 15th century. As was usual at the time, they fight dismounted in the battle line and break enemy foot in close combat. The 17 flags let you mark the retinues of several nobles side by side. Archers and mercenaries with pikes or handguns complete a full army of the years 1450 to 1500.
